Welcome to BSBJ
Air pollution is a problem in Beijing. Air can be so bad that people are told not to go outside on some days. In reality, there is no escaping the bad air. Birth defects and cancer rates are rising in this city but to too many Beijingers, pollution is just apart of life.
Recognizing the problem, 2007 was the year that the Beijing government decided to aim for 245 blue sky days. Blue Skies are Air Pollution levels under 101. And on the very last day of the year, they got it!
Now its 2008. The government has set the Blue Sky days goal to 256 days or 70% of the days of the year! In the Olympic spirit, this site will help you see the city's blue skies as the year progresses.
2 photos will be taken each day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. With it will be pollution levels for the day, wind, and whether Beijing deems the day blue or not.
